Gala Node Setup Guide: How to Run a Gala Node + System Requirements

GalaGamer

Congratulations! You’re now a proud owner of the Gala Games Node and an active member of its Ecosystem.

But buying a Gala Games node license isn’t just it. In order to take an active part in the Gala tokens distribution, you need to learn how to run a Gala node.

You will get the daily distribution points only if you run your node for at least six hours a day. And without these points, you won't get Gala tokens and gaming NFTs.

In this guide, I’ll try to explain to you how to operate the Gala node in all details step by step.

There are two options: use a personal computer or a laptop, or run the node on a server. I suggest you run it on a server because it runs 24/7 and you don't have to run it manually every day. But it’s totally up to you. Later you’ll see the difference.

Here’s what you need to do to set up and run the Gala Games node:

  • Create a VPS account
  • Buy the cheapest plan
  • Download and install the software with a simple script
  • Let the Node run active for 6+ hours
  • Enjoy the rewards!

0. Run the node on a personal computer or a laptop

It is absolutely not required to buy and set up a server to run a Gala node. In fact, I personally run it from my laptop, since the requirements aren't that high at the moment. I use my laptop every day anyway. Running the node software doesn't bother me at all and I'm a gamer.

To run the node from your personal computer, go to the Account > Node info and Download the node software. Install it on your computer and run it.

1. Create a VPS account

In case you don't want to manually run the node software on your personal computer, you can rent a dedicated server and run the software there. Set it and forget it.

Let me help you with that in case you don't know how to set it up (most people haven't!)

First step would be creating an account in the provider of your choice.

I suggest you use Vultr. Three reasons:

  • It's a reliable cloud VPS provider
  • I use too and have no complaints
  • You get your first month for free if you register with this link.

Click the link, then Sign Up and create an account.

So far, so good.

2. Deploy a VPS (Virtual Private Server)

Next thing you should deploy a Vultr instance which is basically the server that you rent.

To do that, click the Products tab on the left and click the Deploy instance button:

Select the cheapest option, which currently costs $6. That would be enough for a Gala node, because the requirements are very light.

Note: Make sure the IPv6 option is NOT enabled. The Gala node software does not currently work with IPv6.

Scroll down to the bottom and find the Server Hostname and Server Label fields. You can call them however you want. It doesn't matter.

After you're done, click the Deploy Now button. And wait for the installing process to be completed.

When you'll see the Running status, click on the cloud instance.

There you will see the important info that you may need later: the IP address of your server, the username (root), and the hidden password.

We're done here. Let's get to the next step!

3. Download and install the software with a simple script

You won't have to download anything to your computer. Instead, we're going to run a script on your server and download and run it there.

  • Start the program.
  • Paste the IP address of your Vultr VPS in the config like this:
run a gala node

Next, click Open and connect to your Vultr VPS!

The server will ask for authorization.

Use the default login root and the password for your server that you can find in your dashboard.

Note: the password input will not be visible when you enter it. That's how it should be, don't worry. Just type it in and click Enter.

Or you can just paste the password with the right mouse button and hit Enter.

Now the important and most complicated stuff. You will have to type in this string that will download the necessary software to your VPS. Type it in character for character (or just copy and paste it with the right mouse button):

curl https://static.gala.games/scripts/gala_node_setup.sh | sudo bash

When the downloading is done, you will be asked to enter the Gala Games email and password.

Enter those and... you're done! Your Gala Node is set up and it's running!

4. Let the Node run active for 6+ hours

To check if the node is actually running, go to your Gala Games account and under the Node info tab you will see a notification that your node is online.

For each node that you're running to get a reward it needs to be active for at least 6 hours. The VPS is running 24 hours per day, so you don't have to worry about anything anymore and just reap the rewards!

All the rewards you've got that hasn't been minted onto the blockchain will be visible in your Treasure chest inside your Gala Games account.

System requirements for the Gala Games Node

The official requirements are these:

  • 4 GB RAM
  • 2 CPU Cores
  • 60 GB Disk Space

As you can see, the requirements are pretty low. In fact, some modern smartphones fall into these specs. I never tried it but you can probably run a node from a smartphone 😀
